Automation of Tea Factories

Nikini is being delivered different solutions for Tea Factories to improve the quality of the product and the operational efficiency.

Some of Tea Factories had very small rolling rooms and Nikini accomplished the task of conveying these rolling rooms without difficulty. The conveyor system comprised of pneumatically operated tea rollers with an option of fully automating in the future.

 

To reduce power consumption for compressors several customers use Kaeser screw type energy saving compressors.

 

 

 

 

A reduction in the fatigue level of workers, Reduction of rolling time, Compliance with HACCP requirement and overcoming of the shortage of labour in the tea industry, have been some of the advantages received due to the Nikini’s innovative solutions.

 

 

 

A low grown orthodox tea manufacturer was provided with a fully automated rolling room with conveyors and automatic pressure application. The operation of the pressure pad and door locks was also automated by pneumatics. 

 

 

 

 

The solution provided to a Tea factory which had a very small rolling room was automation based on the use of conveyors and pneumatic technology for rollers. A special feature was the automation of the factory without re-siteing of rollers. All the conveyors equipped with FDA approved –food grade belts and areas where the dhools coming ;in contact is fabricated out of stainless steel. 

 

 

A customer required an extension work to the rolling room, with enough space being provided between the rollers and roll breakers.

 

 

 

 

Text Box: Figure 6     An award winning 5S factory has been installed with Nikini tea roller automation based on pneumatic technology and a batch weighing mechanism to weigh the output of made tea from the dryer. The system also facilitates identification of different dhools on weight basis. The system is capable of keeping past records to be used for future reference. It also has the facility to calculate the dhool out-turn on a daily basis.

 

 

Text Box: Figure 6     Another solution; transformed a traditional orthodox tea factory to a modern automated food processing unit. This unit incorporates a fully automated humidification system, an energy saving compressor application for roller automation and humidifying, inverters for low RPM roller discharging and a fully automated withered leaf weighing system for roller charging. This solution produced by Nikini was not only tremendous achievement for the customer but to the entire tea industry in Sri Lanka.

 

Text Box: Figure 8     An installation of dryer feeding mechanism consisting of a conveyor, and automatic feeding which helped reduced the fatigue of the workers, prevented contamination and enhanced the quality of the products. Two belt conveyors and one vibrating conveyor ensures equal feeding of dhools.
