Automated Tea Processing System.
Nikini has been able to revolutionize the tea processing industry with state of the art material moving conveyor systems and other automation facilities. This has successfully improved the quality and quantity of the tea output from the production process.
Nikini is the leading provider of Fully Automated and Semi Automated Tea production systems to the tea industry in Sri Lanka. Automated withering troughs, belt conveyors, vibratory conveyors and automations in tea rollers for the door and the pressure pad are designed and manufactured in-house guaranteeing a high quality product and long-term reliability along with a sophisticated control system. Reduction in labor consumption, increase in productivity and final quality of tea and fit and forget conditions for the machinery installed are some of the many benefits a customer will acquire.
- Belt Conveyors
These will be used for leaf transportation and chances for leaf damage due to extensive leaf handling will be reduced. Further to that since the time durations between roller feeding stages are more properly controlled, the risk of over fermentation and under fermentation will be removed. This leads to better liquor of the final tea.
- Tea Roller Automations (Patented)
Pressure Pad
The pressure pad is automated with a pneumatically operated cylinder to achieve a better roll for the leaf by on and off pressuring with the cylinder. When the cylinder is not pressing the lid the weight of the lid will cause a reduced level of pressure where the excess heat during rolling will be passed out. This leads to better rolling and prevents damage to the tealeaf.
Door Automation
The door of the tea roller could be automated to facilitate automatic opening and closing where the time intervals between such operations could be controlled to achieve optimized rolling.
- Sifting Room Automation
The grading process of the processed tealeaf is carried out in the sifting room. The material is typically handled manually. Conveyors, bucket elevators and control equipment are combined as an automation solution to optimize the process and the final product by eliminating manual handling of tea.
- Weighing Conveyors for green leaf and made tea weighing
In order to ascertain the production capacity and trends it is essential to systematically capture, store and diagnose operational data. Green leaf and made tea weighing conveyors are installed to achieve this purpose together with software as a complete system. Since conveyors are used for weighing the manual handling is eliminated.
- Packaging Machine
The packaging machine is used to pack final tea product in to tea bags. The degree of automation could be varying depending on customer requirement. Modular design could be facilitated to enable space for integrating future upgradings as necessary.

In its existence so far as a machinery manufacturer it has designed and built leak testing machines, thickness control machines, precision drilling machines, bonding machines, automatic packaging machines and weighing systems.
As feeding from a single point is possible with the automated withering trough the amount of manual labor required will be reduced. The leaf handling that has to be carried out will be reduced leading to lesser leaf damage.
These are used to spread the rolled leaf so that when it passes through the roll breakers or the sifters they could be better separated in to the required tea types.
